The problem of securing data isn’t just about managing it during the life of a drive, but also ensuring it is securely deleted once that drive is no longer used. Seagate’s Secure Self-Encrypting Drives (SED) are being advertised as a complete solution as they not only encrypt while the drive is in use, but deleting the data on the drive at the end of its life only requires the deletion of the encryption key rendering all data unreadable. No more data deletion policies or paying another company to securely dispose of the drives.
