The Russian government has this year set aside 500m roubles (£11m) toward the development of nuclear-powered spacecraft, which could be used "for long-distance missions to the moon and Mars", explained Anatoly Perminov, head of Russia’s Space Agency. The agency hopes to have the new engines ready for use "within nine years".
