Security ... think about it!
The government says Thaksin, who is currently believed to be under the protection of Montenegro, evading a two-year jail term for graft, is the real leader and main financier of the red-shirted protest leaders occupying parts of Bangkok using the poor and uneductated rural people as human shields.
Maj. Gen. Khattiya Sawasdiphol, a renegade army officer accused of creating a paramilitary force for the Red Shirt protesters, died Monday of gunshot wounds, the Vajira Hospital reported.
Pro-democracy protesters armed with Molotov cocktails, slingshots, and fireworks entrenched behind barricades of burning tires and plastic bags filled with debris continue to hold off government troops in Thailand's capital.
Already the government has declared large parts of downtown Bangkok a live-fire zone and has attempted to prevent fresh food and supplies from reaching the protesters. At least 5000 people have burrowed in behind walls made from tyres and concrete, fearing there will be more deaths. Eight more lives were taken on Saturday in Bangkok, with the army cracking down.
The government allowed this protest to grow and spin out of control. The government has been indecisive at key times and overreacted at other key times. I can only speculate this is due to not knowing how the military will react. The common question is “where is the military?” My only answer- the government fears the surge of troops necessary to stop the protest, the fear- how many of the troops will not fight for the government?
