MANILA, Phlippines -- A landmine planted by communist insurgents prematurely detonated in Masbate on Friday morning foiling a CPP/NPA plan to ambush government security forces in the province. Nobody was hurt in the explosion that was caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) packed in a tin can with 5-inch nails to enhance fragmentation. Investigators believe the landmine was rigged by local NPA insurgents to ambush government troops when it accidentally exploded.
