The room contained three rifles, multiple rounds of ammunition and two "shooting areas" specifically set up to view approaching police, with a table containing neatly stacked blankets to rest a weapon on, state police Commissioner Col. Frank Pawlowski said Thursday afternoon. Each of the shooting areas afforded Smith a wide area of his 3-acre property to view anyone approaching the house, Pawlowski added. "This was premeditated, an ambush, and troopers didn't have a chance," Pawlowski said.
