The incident, which stopped traffic in and out of the plant, caused about 25 drivers to park on either side of FM 2373 around the plant entrance and stalled another 50 at the employee entry gate. Pantex, located about 17 miles northeast of Amarillo, assembles and dismantles nuclear weapons. The plant, one of the most heavily guarded locations on the planet, also stores tons of plutonium recovered from dismantled weapons. Erhart said the lockdown was conducted in accordance with strict security procedures and guidelines in place when responding to a security issue. He has worked at the plant since July 2001, and said he could not recall the last time the facility had been shut down. Erhart said the plant will conduct a full review of the incident.
